Xbox 360 S Mods

Should I buy the newly discounted Xbox 360 HD DVD player (with 5 free DVDs) or sell my 360 and buy the PS3?

What are some of the pros and cons to each system?

HD vs. Blue Ray?
Xbox Live Fees vs. Sony’s equivalent?
Available Xbox 360 mods vs. PS3 mod?

Keep the 360 and buy the HD

or

Sell the 360 (and games) and buy the PS3 instead?

There’s no point in buying the HD-DVD add-on because HD-DVD is in a losing battle. Blockbuster has already decided that it’s only going to rent Blu-ray movies in their stores, and Target just recently said that it will only stock Blu-ray movies. 5 of the top 8 movie studios support Blu-ray exclusively, while only 1 of them supports HD-DVD exclusively. Warner and Paramount supports both formats. Blu-ray movies are outselling HD-DVD movies at a 2:1 ratio. Blu-ray movies are outrenting HD-DVD movies at a 3:1 ratio (according to Blockbuster).

Blu-ray standalone players are outselling HD-DVD standalone players. There are more HD-DVD standalone players in homes, but HD-DVD did get a head start on Blu-ray players.

Whether or not you want to keep the 360 is up to you. I wouldn’t buy a system based on what format it uses. If I did, I wouldn’t have gotten a Wii, GC, DC, N64, etc. I buy a system based on the games that it has that I want to play.

XBL is about 50 bucks a year, and Sony Online is free.
