If so how much would it cost? Would you recommend doing it? How does it work?
My dad researched away to store all his cds onto something that can connect to speakers and a modded xbox was recommended. I want to learn more about this. Links would be great.

The mod for the XBox you heard about was for the original Xbox, not the 360.
You don’t need to mod the 360 to do what you father wants. All you need is a PC running windows, and a nice large hard drive (they’re cheap!) The 360 can act as a media streaming client. This allows the 360 to play music stored on your PC through your TV or stereo speakers. You can use your 360′s controller, or the 360′s DVD remote to navigate the directories of music on your PC to choose which songs to play. In addition, the 360 can also display photos, and play video files as well.
You will need to have your 360 connected to your home’s network along with your PC. Wired or wireless is fine, but both your PC and 360 must be on the same network.
You can use Windows Media Player 11, which comes with a media server that’s compatible with the 360. The 360 supports MP3 and WMA for audio. Your 360′s manual contains more details on this.
In addition, if you have a Live Gold subscription and a Netflix account, you can use your 360 to stream movies from Netflix directly to your 360 and TV.
