I remember that you can mod your xbox to play old video game Roms, but is the same thing possible with a 360?

It’s possible but probably not probable…..let me explain.

The old orignal xbox had basically 2 things for security, they used a code in the bios to pair the xbox hdd and the xbox motherboard together and they used their own file system named FATX to run the xbox and each xbox executable file had to be signed and authorized using a hash check system.

Now when the xbox came out microsoft said nobody could hack it or mod it, and that challenged a lot of people to start. The eeprom is a chip on the motherboard that controls the locking and unlocking of the hard drive. When we finally figured out how it worked and how to expliot and modify it we could already run unsigned code. The eeprom just allows you to have a different hard drive in your xbox, like a 1tb for example.

And fatx wasn’t really hard to figure out as it’s a modifed fat file system….i don’t know what they were thinking there. The very last form of security was pretty easy to get around, figuring out their hash check system we could sign homebrew software and run it.

Anyway when the 360 was being designed they outdid their old security ten fold. Not only did they encrypt the ram (so if you could get unsigned code to work you wouldn’t have any ram to run it) but they locked the dvd drives to each xbox along with other major security features. The most major security feature is called the hyper-visor. Think of the hypervisor as a cop or antivirus prog that won’t let you do a damn thing. The hypervisor was first beat by an exploit found in the king kong game.

The 360 has been hacked and modded though the king kong exploit and a chip. The chip has already been partially defeated as it needed a old version of the xbox dash to run. Microsoft released a update that doesn’t allow the code to be ran.

You can google "xbox 360 security" and find tons of supporting information. Unless you know exactly what you’re doing you will never get your xbox modded to run emulators. I know i will never attempt it.

I’ve heard of mods that allow you to play SNES games, but I’ve never seen proof.
    Sounds plausible to me though.

I haven’t personally seen it done… theoretically it’s basically a computer, so it should be possible.

Two researchers are developing an algorithm designed specifically to ‘de-pixelize’ 8-bit (and 16-bit) video game graphics in real-time into smoother, much more flowing ones. This. changes. everything. No, no it doesn’t — just the time I’ll spend playing NES…
